Table Tennis Tournament
The Bridge Christmas Table Tennis tournament was held in Northampton on Wednesday 18th December. 23 participants took part in the keenly contested tournament.
Rather than the usual knockout competition, this time we decided to put everyone into groups. Participants were split into 4 groups, meaning that everyone played at least 4 matches with the top 2 qualifying from each group.
The quarter final draw was made and all matches were close encounters. We eventually got down to our final 2. Joe, who has won the tournament in the past, came up against last tournaments runner up, Vinnie. Vinnie raced into a 2- 0 lead, playing brilliantly. Joe then hit back to make it 2-2 with some outstanding play. In to the decider we went, with Vinnie eventually coming out on top to go one step further and win his first tournament.
The level of ability by both players was superb, but most impressive to us was the spirit in which the final was played. Both regularly complimenting the other on their good play, and both gracious in defeat and victory - as you can see in the picture.
These tounaments are great in that they bring in members from different parts of the county, increasing social networks of those in recovery and are always played in great spirit - creating a welcoming atmosphere.
It is a pleasure for us to be involved in days like this - another fantastic day and tournament at Bridge.
