This week we hosted the annual Macmillan Coffee morning event.
We started on Wednesday 25th September 2019, with many members attending Bridge sites to make some cakes with ingredients and facilities supplied by Bridge. Many of our members had never made a cake before so this was a great opportunity for those to take part, with staff supporting where needed.
The room was then decorated in preparation for the event on Thursday 26th September with lots of help from our members.
The Coffee Morning started at 11am. The room was packed, and we had the Bridge band (Russ and Vince) performing for us, with members participating in the sing-a-long, and also some solo performances from members, creating a lovely, lively atmosphere.
Prizes were on offer in the cake competition for ‘Tastiest’, ‘Most Creative’, ‘Best Decorated’ and an amazing 22 cakes were entered in to the competition by our members. We had 3 judges who rated the cakes in each category. It was a tough job but someone’s got to do it!
In a close competition we had Kieran win for ‘Tastiest’, Wou for ‘Most Creative’ and Kaylee for ‘Best Decorated’.
We then had afternoon tea, which consisted of tea and coffee, sandwiches, crisps and cake.
Following this we held a Quiz, which was run by 2 of our members/volunteers – Andrew and Jess. They did brilliantly in delivering this, which was eventually won by ‘The Gruesome Threesome’.
There was still enough time to draw a raffle, with many members winning prizes.
Overall it was a brilliant day. There was a great atmosphere throughout, with members from all areas mixing together, having a laugh and a joke, showing the value of a Recovery Community.
So far we have raised over £335 for Macmillan, with hopefully more to come as we continue selling cakes.
Thank you to all those who took part.
